There is one species in this family. The barbeled houndshark is a small shark 1.5-2.5 feet in length that is found in the coastal waters of the eastern Atlantic, from Mauritania south to Angola. It is a slender light gray to brown shark with two dorsal fins, oval eyes, and barbels on its nostrils. Barbels are fleshy feelers! The female gives birth to live young. The barbeled houndshark eats fish and crustaceans.
