 There are two species in this family. The false cat shark is around 7-10 feet in length and is dark brown or gray. It is found in deep waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans at depths of 650-4,900 feet. It has a long, slender body; long, narrow, oval eyes; and a long, low first dorsal fin.
The slender smoothhound is also known as the gollum shark. It is found in the waters around Australia and New Zealand. It is slender brown shark, about 3.5 feet in length. It has a broad, flat head and a bell-shaped snout.
